Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
I need to take a pause on writing about Bible Month because I think it is important to make an urgent clarification on the issues of baptism. I have heard in very recent times that some people want to dress their child in colors that are not marked by the teachings of the Church, some shops have come up selling colored baptism clothes. The same has happened with the quinceañeras that it seems that rather than attending a party they go to a funeral due to the black or purple color that they, although the celebration of the quinceañera is not a sacrament, it has a historical symbolism that our ancestors celebrated in Mesoamerica, the pink color means youth and the beginning of life towards maturity and accepting the responsibilities of the woman, this color was decided by the missionaries of the time. Now this celebration has become a mere social act where the original traditions or motifs for which to celebrate the quinceañera are no longer present and the most important thing is to feel as if you are at the Hollywood red carpet. Pope Francis gives us guidance on the meaning of the white garment of baptism: The last catechesis on Baptism has been dedicated to the white garment and the lighted candle, symbolizing the 'dignity of the baptized' and his/her 'Christian vocation' , the Pope has explained. Unspotted until eternal life - We are called to preserve the garment "unspotted until eternal life" – Pope Francis has clarified – walking the "path of Christian life, cultivating virtues and, above all, living charity". The Pope has explained the meaning of the white garment in the baptism: From the first centuries, the newly baptized are clothed in a new white garment, to express their condition, received in the sacrament, of creatures transfigured in divine glory.
Light of the Risen Christ - Secondly, the Holy Father has spoken of the symbolism that represents in Baptism the candle lit in the Easter candle: it indicates that "the light comes from the risen Christ, from whom we receive its splendor and its warmth", he des-cribed. "The Christian vocation impels us to walk in the light of Christ and to persevere in faith". The parents, the Pontiff has ex-pressed, as well as the godparents, have a responsibility to feed this baptismal flame so that the little ones grow in the faith.
Our Father - The Pope has recalled that the celebration of baptism is concluded with the Our Father, that is the prayer of God's children. For this reason, Francis has invited parents to teach this prayer from a young age: "Newly baptized children will learn this prayer and what it means to call God the Father within the Church."
Let us preserve the teachings of the Church and do not allow commercial interests to distort it. .
Cuestiones del Bautismo
Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo,
Necesito hacer una pausa en escribir sobre el mes de biblia porque veo importante hacer una aclaración urgente sobre las cuestiones del bautismo. En fechas muy recientes he escuchado que algunas personas quieren vestir a su niño o niña de colores que no son marcados por las enseñanzas de la Iglesia de modo que han surgido algunas tiendas que se dedican a vender ropa para bautizos de colo-res. Lo mismo ha sucedido con las quinceañeras que parece que más que alguna fiesta van a un funeral por el color negro o morado que a veces me ha tocado ver que visten a la quinceañera, aunque la celebración de los XV años no es un sacramento, tiene un simbolismo histórico que nuestros ancestros celebraban en Mesoamérica el color rosa que significa la juventud y el inicio de la vida hacia la madurez y aceptar las responsabilidades de la mujer lo decidieron los misioneros de la época. Ahora esta celebración se vuelve un mero acto social donde lo mas importante es sentirse como si estuviera en la alfombra roja de Hollywood. El Papa Francisco nos da unas orientaciones sobre el significado de la vestidura blanca del bautismo: La última catequesis sobre el Bautismo ha estado dedicada a la vestidura blanca y a la vela encendida, que simbolizan la ‘dignidad del bautizado’ y su ‘vocación cristiana’, ha explicado el Papa.
Sin mancha hasta la vida eterna - Estamos llamados a preservar la vestidura «sin mancha hasta la vida eterna» –ha aclarado el Papa Francisco– recorriendo el “camino de la vida cristiana, cultivando las virtudes y, sobre todo, viviendo la caridad”. El Papa ha explica-do el significado de la vestidura blanca en el bautizo: Desde los primeros siglos, los recién bautizados se revisten de una nueva vestidura blanca, para expresar su condición, recibida en el sacramento, de criaturas transfiguradas en la gloria divina.
Luz de Cristo resucitado - En segundo lugar, el Santo Padre ha hablado del símbolo que representa en el Bautismo la vela encendida en el cirio pascual: ésta indica que “la luz procede de Cristo resucitado, de quien recibimos su esplendor y su calor”, ha descrito. “La vocación cristiana nos impulsa a caminar en la luz de Cristo y a perseverar en la fe”. Los padres ha expresado el Pontífice como también los padrinos y las madrinas, tienen la responsabilidad de alimentar esta llama bautismal para que los más pequeños vayan creciendo en la fe.
Padre Nuestro - El Papa ha recordado que la celebración del bautismo se concluye con el Padre Nuestro, que es la oración de los hijos de Dios. Por ello, Francisco ha invitado a los padres a enseñar esta oración desde pequeños: “Los niños recién bautizados aprenderán esta oración y lo que significa llamar a Dios Padre dentro de la Iglesia”.
Conservemos las enseñanzas de la Iglesia y no permitamos que intereses comerciales la distorsionen.
