Los tiempos en que vivimos nos han obligado a tomar decisiones que nunca pensamos hacer. Desde la época Cristera no se habían cerrado los templos ante un grave peligro. En aquel tiempo, por la opresión anticlerical, pero no una situación de emergencia como la que estamos viviendo en estos tiempos modernos, donde el enemigo es totalmente invisible. Tuve la experiencia del pasado martes 17 de marzo de celebrar la última misa en público. Se respiraba un clima desolador, como si estuviéramos al borde del exterminio. Contemplé el dolor de muchas personas que con lágrimas en los ojos, recibían por última vez la Sagrada Eucaristía. Debo confesarlo, a mí también me dolió el momento, pero yo creo firmemente que todo es providencial.
En cuanto nos notificaron la suspensión de las celebraciones al público por parte de nuestro Obispo, inmediatamente vi la necesidad de hacer algo por nuestros parroquianos. Era el momento de ir a las redes sociales y comenzar a transmitir las celebraciones eucarísticas. Sin duda, un reto muy grande, porque pocas veces había celebrado sin personas, para ser exacto, solo una vez, pero yo todavía era seminarista, donde un sacerdote celebró conmigo la misa y éramos los únicos presentes en esa celebración. Grande es la sorpresa que nos ve muchas personas, me atrevo a decir más de las que asistían cuando la iglesia estaba abierta entre semana. Obviamente la situación es un detonante. Las personas están descubriendo su realidad espiritual y buscan atenderla, nutrirla, y desean que toda esta contingencia termine para volver a recibir el sacramento. No siento que le estoy hablando a una cámara, experimento su cercanía en las celebraciones.
Sin duda, muchas personas están sufriendo los estragos de esta pandemia y han perdido seres queridos. A nosotros nos toca interceder por ellos y trabajar mucho para dar alivio. Les hago un llamado a seguir perseverando en la fe a través de las redes sociales de nuestra parroquia o de la Diócesis de San Bernardino, en donde se ofrece la transmisión de la Santa Eucaristía, le la adoración al Santísimo Sacramento del altar. A los ministerios litúrgicos les invito a formar parte de los grupos de formación litúrgica en grupo cerrado de Facebook para continuar con su formación. Del mismo modo hago la invitación al grupo de matrimonios para que se adhieran al grupo de Facebook que se creó para ellos y continuar con su formación.
You can't contemplate a sunrise without going through the darkness of the night
The times in which we live have forced us to make decisions that we never intended to make. Since the Cristero War in Mexico, churches had not been closed in the face of grave danger. At that time churches were closed, by anti-clerical oppression, but not an emergency like the one we are living in these modern times, where the enemy is totally invisible. Last Tuesday, March 17th, I had the experience to celebrate the last mass in public. There was a bleak climate, as if we were on the verge of extermination. I contemplated the pain of many people who, with tears in their eyes, received the Holy Eucharist for the last time. I must confess, it hurt me too, but I firmly believe that everything is providential.
As soon as we were notified of our Bishop's suspension of the celebrations to the public, I immediately saw the need to do something for our parishioners. It was time to go to social media and start broadcasting the Eucharistic celebrations. Certainly, a very great challenge, because I had rarely celebrated without people, to be exact, only once, but I was still a seminarian, where a priest celebrated The Mass with me and we were the only ones present at that celebration. Surprisingly many people see us, I dare say more watch then when the church was open on weekdays. Obviously, the situation is a trigger. People are discovering their spiritual reality and seeking to care for it, nurture it, and want all this contingency to end to receive the Sacrament again. I don't feel like I'm talking to a camera, I feel close to all of you, as if you were here with me.
No doubt many people are suffering the ravages of this pandemic and have lost loved ones. It's up to us to intercede for them and work hard to give relief. I call on you to continue to persevere in faith through the social networks of our parish or the Diocese of San Bernardino, where the transmission of the Holy Eucharist is offered, to worship the Blessed Sacrament of the altar. I invite the liturgical ministries to join Facebook's closed group liturgical training groups to continue their formation. Similarly, I invite the group of marriages to join the Facebook group that was created for them and continue their formation.
