I think that the homily of last Tuesday, can contribute a little more to the reflection on the violence and on some circumstances that emerge from it.
08202019C Jc 6, 11-24; Mt 19, 23-30
In the first reading, Gideon asks himself the question that many people have raised: "My Lord, if the LORD is with us, why has all this happened to us? Where are his wondrous deeds of which our fathers told us when they said, 'Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt?' For now the LORD has abandoned us and has delivered us into the power of Midian."
These types of phrases are very common to find in intellectual people, who have a high academic level, and who want to question the existence of God as if He were a superhero. In fact, that is the Protestant mentality. Much of their doctrine and their songs speak of God being a protector, a superhero who will not allow anything to happen, but when the sad reality of our world is contemplated, the criticisms are very harsh. The Lord gives Gideon a revelation that leaves him practically shocked. God has chosen him to save the people, but Gideon feels limited. He simply can't believe it.
In the following verses the situation changes. Gideon reacts as few people currently react, contemplating the reality in which they live and understand the call of God. Many people stagnate and do not react like Gideon. They do not take the final step towards conversion and realize that they are also part of the solution in the history of salvation. Many end up blaming God for all the misfortunes of the world, but they sit still, doing nothing. Gideon's close relationship with God makes it possible to understand the call that God makes to all people to help save the world. If people do not cultivate a strongly spiritual life, they will never be able to understand the signs of the times and will remain without doing anything, while evil progresses by leaps and bounds. They will end up like the people of Israel, blaming God and claiming eternally for their misfortunes.
In the gospel, Jesus speaks that a rich man will hardly enter the kingdom of heaven; not because the person is rich, but because material goods distract him too much, and he cannot have time for the things of God and cultivate a deep or strong spiritual life. People prefer to go to Las Vegas than go to a retreat. People prefer yoga instead of kneeling before the Blessed Sacrament, prefer to divorce their spouse than to dialogue and accept their mistakes, prefer to kill criminals, rather than evangelize. We have to realize that we are the ones God has chosen to change the situation of our world, our city, our neighborhood, our families and ourselves.

Creo que la homilía del martes pasado, puede contribuir un poco más a la reflexión sobre la violencia y algunas circunstancias que emergen de esta.

En la primera lectura, Gedeón se hace a si mismo la pregunta que muchas personas han planteado: "Señor mío, si el Senors está con nosotros, ¿por qué todo esto que nos ha pasado? ¿Dónde están sus maravillosas obras que nuestros padres nos dijeron cuando dijeron, '¿Qué no fue el Señor nos trajo arriba de Egipto?' Por ahora el Señor nos ha abandonado y nos ha librado del poder de Madián."
Este tipo de frases son muy comunes de encontrar en la gente intelectual, que tienen un alto nivel académico, y que quieren cuestionar la existencia de Dios como si fuera un superhéroe. De hecho, esta es la mentalidad protestante. Gran parte de su doctrina y sus canciones hablan de Dios como un protector, un superhéroe que no permitirá que nada suceda, pero cuando se contempla la triste realidad de nuestro mundo, las críticas son muy duras. El Señor da a Gedeón una revelación que lo deja prácticamente sorprendido. Dios lo ha elegido para salvar a la gente, pero Gedeón se siente limitado. Él simplemente no puede creerlo.
En los siguientes versículos la situación cambia. Gedeon reacciona cómo pocas personas reaccionan actualmente, contemplando la realidad en la que viven y entendiendo el llamado de Dios. Muchas personas se estancan y no reaccionan como Gedeón. No dan el paso final hacia la conversión y no se dan cuenta de que también son parte de la solución en la historia de la salvación. Muchos terminan culpando a Dios por todas las desgracias del mundo, pero se quedan quietos, sin hacer nada. La relación cercana de Gedeón con Dios hace posible comprender el llamado que Dios hace a todas las personas para ayudar a salvar el mundo. Si la gente no cultiva una vida fuertemente espiritual, nunca serán capaces de entender los signos de los tiempos y permanecerán sin hacer nada, mientras el mal avanza a pasos agigantados. Terminan como el pueblo de Israel, culpando a Dios y reclamando eternamente de sus desgracias.
En el Evangelio, Jesús habla de que un hombre rico difícilmente entrará en el Reino de los cielos; no porque la persona es rica, sino porque bienes materiales le distraen demasiado, y no puede tener tiempo para las cosas de Dios y cultivar una vida espiritual profunda o fuerte. Prefieren ir a Las Vegas a ir a un retiro. Personas prefieren yoga en lugar de arrodillarse ante el Santísimo Sacramento, quiere divorciarse de su cónyuge que, en vez de dialogar y aceptar sus errores, prefieren matar a los criminales, en lugar de evangelizar. Tenemos que darnos cuenta que nosotros somos los que Dios ha escogido para cambiar la situación de nuestro mundo, nuestra ciudad, nuestro barrio, nuestras familias y a nosotros mismos.
