Today I want to share a story that a colleague of mine from philosophy in the seminary shared with us in a writing that, as I read it, gave me a teaching that until today I remember. Jaime García Contreras, originally from Zumpango, State of Mexico, was a very cheerful, optimistic, kind, organized, responsible person. In August 2007 he wrote an article explaining the secret of happiness through a short story that was to be addressed to the children readers of a magazine we have in Mexico.
Once upon a time there was a missionary who was on a mission in northern Mexico, Piedras Negras to be exact. He suffered and cried a lot, for he saw few fruits in the mission. He thought that what he did was not enough to help so many people, he felt that he could not get everyone to hear the Word of God. He thought he had to be a very popular person and, because he was a shy person, he believed that if he was not a person with great qualities, people would not look at him and ask him to give them the biblical course. His mission partner is aware of his situation and, to encourage him, said the following: "Many people like to dress well, they are looking for the best clothes, which fit their needs. Imagine a man wants to buy a jacket. What will motivate this man to choose, will be the style of the jacket, the color, the texture of the fabric, etc. He wouldn’t choose a jacket for the buttons it has, the only thing that he will take into account is that the button fulfills the function of closure, but the buttons of a jacket will never be taken into consideration when purchasing the jacket.
A lot of times we're like those buttons, people hardly look, but they help a lot. Even if the fabric deteriorates the buttons can remain in good condition and be reused in another jacket. That's our life. We hold much without being seen, but most importantly, God sees everything and has a special appreciation to those who choose anonymity, because the humble person will reveal great things of the Kingdom of Heaven than to those who choose the presumption, they can't access it." Jaime died November 2007. He will never be a priest, but he is already in the place we all want to reach: heaven. I understood that reaching eternal life is more important than becoming a priest.
Las buenas personas, no siempre son visibles
Hoy quiero compartir una historia que un compañero del seminario de filosofía nos compartió en un escrito que no sé dónde quedó pero que, al leerlo, me dio una enseñanza que hasta hoy la recuerdo. Jaime García Contreras, originario de Zumpango, Estado de México, era una persona muy alegre, optimista, amable, organizado, responsable. En agosto del 2007 escribió un artículo donde explicaba el secreto de la felicidad mediante un cuento que iba a ser dirigido a los niños lectores de una revista que tenemos en México.
Había una vez un misionero que estaba de misión en el norte de México, Piedras Negras para ser exacto. El sufría y lloraba mucho, porque veía pocos frutos en la misión. Él pensaba que lo que hacía no era lo suficientemente útil para ayudar a tanta gente, sentía que no podía lograr que todos escucharan la Palabra de Dios. Él pensaba que tenía que ser una persona muy popular y, como el era una persona tímida, creía que, si no era una persona con grandes cualidades, la gente no se fijaría en él y pedirle que les diera el curso bíblico. Su compañero de misión se cuenta de su situación y, para animarlo le dijo lo siguiente: “Muchas personas les gusta vestir bien, buscan las mejores ropas, que se ajusten a sus necesidades. Imagínate que un hombre quiere comprarse un saco. Lo que motivará a este hombre elegir, será el estilo del saco, el color, la textura de la tela, etc. No escogerá un saco por los botones que tenga, lo único que tendrá en cuenta es que el botón cumpla con la función de sujetar el saco, pero los botones de un saco nunca serán causa de determinar una elección.
Muchas veces somos como esos botones, casi no se ven, pero ayudan en mucho. Aunque la tela se deteriore los botones pueden permanecer en buen estado y ser reutilizados en otro saco. Así es nuestra vida. Sostenemos mucho sin ser vistos, pero lo más importante, es que Dios lo ve todo y nos tiene un aprecio especial a los que optan por el anonimato, porque la persona humilde, se le revelarán grandes cosas del Reino de los cielos que a los que optan por la presunción, no pueden acceder”. Jaime falleció en noviembre de 2007. El jamás será sacerdote, pero ya está en el lugar al que todos queremos llegar: al cielo. Entendí que llegar a la vida eterna es más importante que llegar a ser sacerdote.
